THEIR STORY, OUR STORY
Their Story, Our Story is the theme our Growing Groups will be exploring as they gather once again in September. Their Story, Our Story is based on the Acts of the Apostles and some parts of Luke’s Gospel. It is the story of how the Church grew as the Gospel spread out of its Jewish heartland into Europe and beyond. It is a story for our times as we seek to share and live out the Gospel in an increasingly hostile and indifferent Ireland.
“ … He shall be like a tree … “
– Psalm 1:3 (A.V.)
The Irish countryside is verdant in late summer, trees are in full leaf. Stands of beech trees are nature’s cathedrals. Beeches have their ardent admirers. Gilbert White, clergyman and naturalist of the Eighteenth Century thought the beech “the most lovely of all the forest trees, with its smooth bark, its glossy foliage and its graceful pendulous boughs”.
In the opening Psalm of the Psalter, Psalm 1, the writer uses the simile of a tree to describe the “blessed”. The “blessed” delight in what the Lord teaches, are held by God’s truth, their minds nourished by God’s Word. Such people, who have this delight are like mature trees, fulsome, nourished by deep roots, constant, always yielding fruit. The way of the blessed is an alternative way to live with and for God. The Word of God is vital to this way of living. Blessedness has its tap root in the Scriptures. In our church life and individual lives we must give ourselves to the Word of God, daily to read, consider and prayerfully to seek to live out God’s way of living. Then our lives and that of our church will be like the beautiful beech, firm, fixed and flourishing.

IT’S BACK !
Sunday Club is back after summer break, although there were many children still involved in Sunday worship over the summer months. We welcome Sunday Club leaders, both experienced and those learning their craft. The work they do with our children is vital, for we recognise that children can know and respond to God in Christ. Sunday Club celebrates every step taken towards and with God, letting the Bible shape our thinking and actions. We are so looking forward to what God will do in the lives of our children and young people.
MISSIO DEI
This Summer, dozens of people from Kill have been involved in Missio Dei (God’s Mission). People have literally gone into all the world: sent to prisons and orphanages in Russia and Romania, lent to schools and child-care centres in Uganda, South Africa and Dún Laoghaire, building homes and communities in Latin America, leading and taking part in camps from Cork to Donegal and beyond. The term “mission” is from the Latin word meaning “sent”. Jesus sends His followers out into the world with His Gospel Word to make new followers, who in turn go out into the world to make other followers in perpetuity. As they return from being sent, we look forward to hearing at firsthand what God has done in lives and communities in Ireland and worldwide.
YOUTH MOVES
After the success of Emission last year, the concept ran again from 10th to 21st August. This is an outreach project for secondary school students from a number of churches in the area. The idea is to clean up and to highlight one of the local playgroups. Putting faith into practical action can have amazing results.
Plans are in the pipeline for a second Leprosy Mission trip to the hospital at Vadathorasular in Tamil Nadu, Southern India for December 2009 - January 2010. Ian Horner, Parish Children’s and Youth Co-Ordinator, plans to lead a team of a dozen or so young people from Kill to India to get involved in the amazing, life changing work the Leprosy Mission does. Our prayer is that it will be an experience that will change lives, Irish and Indian.
Car Boot Sales

Some dates for your diary – the Car Boot Sales take place in the church grounds, from 10.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
Saturday 17th October
Saturday 14th November
Daniel Friedmann, who organizes the Car Boot Sales, is constantly looking for new volunteers to help on the day. There are two shifts, from 9.00 a.m. to 11.30 a.m., and from 11.30 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. For the first shift it's basically just being there at the gate, telling others to use a different car park, and collecting money from sellers. The second shift has to continue that and tell sellers to pack their stuff and take down the main sign and put it into the container. As long as there's one experienced helper there are no special skills required. It's a job virtually everyone could do who has 2-3 hours spare time every few months.
If you feel you could help in any way, or if you have any queries about the Sales, please contact Daniel on (087) 936 7788.
